| Unlike the genus Salix, the flowers in the genus Populus are wind pollinated. The sepals in the male flowers of Populus are modified into a flat or cup-shaped disk, which bears the anthers around the periphery.
This image shows a portion of a catkin of Populus deltoides, which has numerous male flowers. The disk formed from the sepals is white, while the stamens are reddish-brown.
