CHI-HING CHRISTINA CHENG

PAGETOPSIS MACROPTERUS Also known as an Icefish, this species of Antarctic fish is known for its near translucent appearance. These fish have adapted to their frigid environment in a unique way. They are able to absorb and distribute oxygen directly through their plasma. In turn they maintain an extremely low level of hemoglobin in their blood, making it clear in appearance. Their lack of scales also contributes to their translucent look as well as the ability to absorb oxygen.
