13-Septicidal capsule, Aristolochia

[FMP-field: image]

Capsules are dry, dehiscent fruits that develop from a syncarpous gynoecium.

In a septicidal capsule, the fruits dehisce by separating between the septa of adjacent carpels.

In this fruit of Dutchman's pipe (Aristolochia), there are 6 carpels that are connate.
