CaM Amino Acid Sequence Comparisons

A comparison of the primary structures of representative angiosperm, fern, moss, alga, vertebrate and yeast calmodulin proteins.  Sequences shown in the figure were deduced from the nucleotide sequences of cDNAs. They are displayed to show the sequence relationships of the four EF-hand domains; dashes indicate identical residues. Residues marked by an * indicate Ca2+-binding ligands. The residue marked D in the yeast sequence is a deletion introduced for alignment purposes.

Calmodulin sequences used in the alignment (and their GenBank Accession Numbers) are: Arabidopsis thaliana (M38379); Ceratopteris richardii (AAM34757); Physcomitrella patens (X90560); Chlamydomonas reinhardtii (M20729); Human (AAD45181); and Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae, CAA55612).
