5-Whorled

[FMP-field: image]

Whorled inflorescence (Verticel) - an inflorescence where there are multiple flowers arranged in a circle around a single node. In the mint family (Lamiaceae), the verticels are arranged into spikes.

Both of these plants are in the mint family, Phlomis russelliana in the left and Teucrium canadense on the right.

Photos by K. R. Robertson, that of Phlomis taken on the island of Madeira, that of Teucrium at Bonnie's Prairie Nature Preserve, Iroquois County, Illinois.
