I am one of the few natives within the Department of Entomology,
growing up in a small town outside of Urbana, IL. I received my
B.S.
in Biology from Millikin University in Decatur, IL in
1993. I completed my Master's Degree in Entomology in
1996 in Dr. Hugh Robertson's laboratory. My Master's project
focused on
debunking one insect "ancient DNA" claim among the many that were
circulating
in the early 1990s.
I then took the position of Research
Specialist in Dr. Robertson's lab, and I continue to supervise
undergraduate students,
assist graduate students, and complete other small projects.
Currently, I am focused on several projects for Anopheles
gambiae, Apis mellifera,
Tribolium castaneum, and Diabrotica virgifera.
When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, which
includes my 6 year old son. I also spend my weekends
tending my flower gardens, watching Ruby-throated hummingbirds, and
decorating wedding cakes.
