Using the latest data from the contract partners of the European
Sorghum Network, the model was tested against data for a sorghum crop grown in Vagia,
Greece; Guadiano, Italy and Podenza, Italy, in 1997. The data was supplied by the contract
partners at: the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources, Greece; Dipartimento di Produzione
Vegetale, Univ. della Basilicata, Italy and Ist. Botanica e Genetica veg., Univ. Cattolica
del Sacro Cuore, Italy, respectively. Parameter values listed in Table 1.

Default model values were used where not otherwise supplied.
The results of model simulations are compared with observed data in Figures 1, 2 and
3c.
Model simulation correlates with observed stem and above ground dry matter
production, with r2 values of 0.91 and 0.87, respectively (Figs. 3b and 3c. Rut21b.spw;
Rut21r2.spw).

Figure 2. Simulated and measured dry matter production and LAI of sorghum crop
grown at Guadiano, Italy in 1997. Regression analysis results in r2 values of
0.95, 0.94, 0.88 and 0.77 for above ground, stem and leaf dry weights and LAI,
respectively.

Figure 3. Simulated and measured dry matter production and LAI of sorghum crop
grown at Podenza, Italy in 1997. Regression analysis results in r2 values of
0.95, 0.91, 0.86 and 0.76 for above ground, stem and leaf dry weights and LAI,
respectively.
