- Allen J. Coombes. Dictionary of Plant Names: The pronunciation, derivation and meaning of botanical names and their common-name equivalents. First published in England by Collingridge in 1985; U.S. edition published by Timber Press.
- A. W. Smith. A Gardener's handbook of plant names: their meanings and origins. First published in 1963, reprinted by Dover in 1997.
- Hugues Vaucher. Elsevier's Dictionary of Trees and Shrubs. 1986. A multilingual dictionary comprised of 2,300 Latin names subdivided into 140 families, 510 genera, 1,650 species and varieties. Simplifies the correlation between the popular and scientific names. Sections with English, French, German and Italian names.
