Sorbaria sorbifolia, Ural false spirea, is a large shrub, sometimes dying to the ground in very cold winters; it is native to northern Asia. The pinnately compound leaves are unusual in subfamily Spiraeoideae; compare these leaves later with Sorbus of subfamily Maloideae.
Both photos taken by K. R. Robertson at the Morton Arboretum, Lisle, Illinois.
