Plant Biology 102:
Lecture Outline
Capturing Energy: Photosynthesis
Lecture Objectives
By the end of the lecture, you should be
able to:
- write the summary equation for
photosynthesis.
- list the changes in form that energy
undergoes as it is converted from light energy to the energy in
chemical bonds of sugar (glucose).
- list the reactants and products
of the light-dependent reactions and the Calvin-Benson Cycle.
- draw a simple diagram of a leaf to
indicate the location of photosynthesis and the path of
acquisition of the reactants.
- draw a simple diagram of a cell
including chloroplasts indicating where the light-dependent
reactions and the Calvin-Benson Cycle occur.
- briefly describe the role of enzymes
in the process of photosynthesis.

4. Summary
For the next lecture on Productivity,
read Ch 5.4, but be able to answer the following question:
- Which ecosystems have
the highest primary productivity?
- Which type of crops
have the highest yield?
