Quiz Writer Project

Requirements:

1. Adhere to the Policy of Academic Integrity in Plant Biology 102.

2. Contact Beth Morgan by e-mail on the web by clicking her name and indicate your interest in the project.

3. This project involves participation in the Extra Credit Discussion Group.

4. Write 5 ORIGINAL multiple-choice questions with 5 different answer choices based on the objectives in the lecture outline and post them to Extra Credit Discussion Group. Your question answers may not use: all of the above, none of the above, or any multiple of the answers.

This might include material presented in lecture or in the text book. Questions should test more than recall of facts. Try to write questions that require the application of knowledge to new situations. Checking your understanding of definitions is important, but we are more interested in your understanding of the relationships between biological ideas.
(Do NOT scavenge questions from old exam files or your text!)

5. Include topic of the lecture and the number of the objective for EACH question you write. For example:

All Things are Connected: Population Dynamics, Objective #4
Question 1. Which below is a density independent factor?

a. the flu
b. Hurricane Earl
c. forest fire
d. flooding
e. tornado

6. Invite other students to try your quiz and comment on your questions. Write responses to other student's answers, comments, and questions as they are posted.

7. The following week post the answers AND a brief explanation of EACH of the questions from the previous week's quiz. Include statements explaining why the correct answer is correct AND why each wrong choice is wrong.

8. Write substantive comments on and/or ask questions about the extra credit project entries of other students. If you answer another student's quiz questions include brief statements explaining EACH of your choices. You may also interact with classmates involved in extra credit projects other than Quiz Writer. Dialog entries:

Credit: Extra credit is added at the end of the semester as percentage points on top of the course grade you have earned.

Credit is variable depending on your level of participation. It will be based on the number of your project entries through the final due date of your portfolio, the number and quality of responses from other students, and your active interaction in other student's extra credit projects. Each complete project entry and related Extra Credit Discussion Group interactions with others is worth 1 extra percentage point. Maximum extra credit is 10%.

See the Portfolios page for instructions for the preparation of your EXTRA CREDIT PORTFOLIO.
