Global Meal Project
Requirements:
1. Adhere
to the Policy
of Academic Integrity in Integrative
Biology 102.
2. This project involves preparing a
dish and serving it to your classmates. You will:
- choose a food plant from the list below,
- find a recipe that uses this plant as its main ingredient,
- make a PowerPoint presentation that includes, an image of the
plant in cultivation, a map indicating the region where the plant is
cultivated, the nutritional facts including the essential amino acid
componenets (you may use U of I's Nutrition Analysis Tool,
2.0), and an explanation of how the plant is traditionally
cultivated,
- join others at a group meal on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 6 to
7 pm in the discussion room (316 NHB).
3. This project is
worth 1 point of extra credit.
Here is the list of food plants
to choose from-
- amaranth
- barley
- buckwheat
- collards
- legumes (non-standard!)
- marmite (vegamite)
- millet
- prickly pear
- quinoa
- sea weed
- soy beans (and soy products)
- taro (kalo)

Credit: Extra
credit is added at the end of the semester as percentage points on top
of the course grade you have earned. Maximum extra credit is 6%.
