DNA and Protein Synthesis
Print and bring to
discussion.
Objectives
At the end of this lesson, you
should be able to:
- reproduce the model of gene expression presented in class.
Gene (DNA) --> mRNA --> Polypeptide --> Protein
(Enzyme) --> Phenotype
- diagram the expression of a gene including transcription,
translation, and the role of enzymes in the development of a phenotypic
trait, i.e. chlorophyll production.
- explain the affect of mutations on protein functioning.
DNA Interactive
* DNA Replication (Making sister chromatids during
the S phase of the cell cycle)
o Chose "Copying the Code" toward the bottom of the screen
o then select "puting it together" from the top of the next screen.
o Then choose the "Replication animation".
* Transcription DNA --> RNA
o Chose "Copying the Code" toward the bottom of the screen
o then select "puting it together" from the top of the next screen.
o Then choose the "Transcription animation"
* Translation mRNA --> Protein
o Chose "Reading the Code" toward the bottom of the screen
o then select "puting it together" from the top of the next screen.
o Then choose the "Translation animation".
