Installing the Retrospect client


IMPORTANT - When the installation wizard asks for a password, enter 'sols' as the password. Do not use your personal password.

 

Retrospect will backup Windows or Mac clients. You'll need to obtain the client installer from our file server, commons2.life.illinois.edu, or from Dantz's web site.

Here are the paths to find the files on Commons2.

To download the client from Dantz's web site, find the latest version available for your operating system via this link.


Run the Retrospect Client installer.
On Windows, run Setup.exe inside of the client installer directory.
On Windows NT/2000/XP, you must be logged in with Administrator access to properly install the client.

Be sure to enter the password as 'sols' when requested by the instaler.
We'll use that password to connect to the client the first time, and then change the client to use a secure password.

Restart your computer to activate the software.


Once the client is installed, please fill out the Request Backup Activation form.

On receiving your request, we will configure our Retrospect servers to back up your computer and send you confirmation via e-mail. You may monitor your machine's backup status as described in the next section.
