A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Assistant Professor Huey Hing, Department of Cell and Structural Biology, to study olfactory axon guidance and odotopic map development in Drosophila.

Research Program:The Olfactory map is important for olfactory cognition, yet the mechanisms by which it develops are essentially unknown. Our long-term goal is to elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms by which olfactory axons project to their targets in the brain. Our approach focuses on isolating and characterizing genes involved in olfactory axon guidance using Drosophila as a model system.
Qualifications:Ph.D. is required, with training in genetics, cell biology and developmental biology. Experience in molecular biology, immunohistochemistry and protein biochemistry is highly desirable. The ability to work as a team and with considerable independence is essential.
Salary:Salary is commensurate with background and experience, but is generally in the range of US$24,000 per year.
Starting Date:Aug 15, 2001 or as soon thereafter as possible.
