  • The MCB428 Final Exam is 8:00am-11:00am on Monday, December 18th at 1024 Chemistry Annex. The Final Exam covers Exercises #5, 6 and 7 (Transfer of Antibiotic Resistance, Anaerobic Infections and Sexually Transmitted Infections). It is worth 50 points and will be the same format as the previous Exams. Bring a pen/pencil and non-graphing calculator. Please arrive on time and put your belongings in front of the classroom and sit every other seat (try to sit in back of the person in front of you).

  • Tuesday, December 12th is the last lab session and will involve cleaning up your bench drawers and turning in lab coats, etc. See you then.

  • Thursday, December 7th is Day 2 of the MCB428 Lab Practical. Please arrive on time. You will be tested on diagnostic tests and media used during the first four Lab Exercises (UTI, Gram-positive cocci, Respiratory Tract and GI Tract Infections). There will be 10 Test Stations with demos of tests and media and you will have to answer questions about them.

    The Post-Lab #7 (STDs) will be due by 9pm on Friday, December 8th.

  • Tuesday, December 5th is Day 1 of the MCB428 Lab Practical. You will be tested on streaking a plate, Gram-staining and microscopy, and performing the catalase and coagulase test.
  • Your Lab Report #7 (STDs) is due at the beginning of the class (before the Lab Practical). The Post-Lab #7 (STDs) will be due by 9pm on Friday, December 8th.

     

  • Thursday, November 30th we will finish Exercise #7 on Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). The Lab Report #7 (STDs) will be due on Tuesday, December 5th (the same day as Day 1 of the Lab Practical) and the Post-Lab #7 (STDs) will be due by 9pm on Friday, December 8th.
  • The Lab Practical (Day 1 and Day 2) is next week on December 5th and 8th.

     

  • Welcome back! Tuesday, November 28th we will start Exercise #7 on Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). A Pre-Lab #7 will be due on that day before your section (9am for Section A and noon for Section B).

    Your Lab Report #6 (Anaerobic Infections) will be due that Tuesday, November 28th at the beginning of class. Your Post-Lab #6 (Anaerobic Infections) will be due by Wednesday, November 29th at 9pm (Note: some of you originally only got four questions instead of five. The problem should be fixed now).

  • Next week is the Break so have a fun relaxing time. After the Break on Tuesday, November 28th we will start Exercise #7 on Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). A Pre-Lab #7 will be due on that day before your section (9am for Section A and noon for Section B).
  • Your Lab Report #6 (Anaerobic Infections) will be due that Tuesday, November 28th at the beginning of class. Your Post-Lab #6 (Anaerobic Infections) will be due by Wednesday, November 29th at 9pm.

     

  • Thursday, November 16th we will finish Exercise #6 (Anaerobic Infections) Day 3. The Lab Report #6 will be due after the Break on Tuesday, November 28th. The Post-Lab #6 (Anaerobic Infections) will be due by Wednesday, November 29th.

  • Tuesday, November 14th we will continue with Exercise #6 (Anaerobic Infections) Day 2.

  • Tuesday, November 7th is Exam #2. It covers the Respiratory Tract Infections and the Gastrointestinal Tract Infections and is worth 100 pts. The same format as Exam #1 (mainly short answer questions with a few True/False and multiple choice questions). Please arrive on time so everyone can start on time.
  • The Lab Report #5 (HGT) will be due Thursday, November 9th and the Post-Lab #5 (HGT) will be due by Friday, November 10th.

    Thursday, November 9th we will start Exercise #6 on Anaerobic Infections (a Pre-Lab #6 will be due before class).

     

  • Wednesday, November 1st the Post-Lab #4 (Gastrointestinal Tract Infections) is due by 9pm.
  • Thursday, November 2nd we will finish Exercise #5 on Horizontal Gene Transfer (HGT). There is no new lecture handout. The Lab Report #5 (HGT) will be due November 9th and the Post-Lab #5 (HGT) will be due by November 10th.

    Exam #2 will be Tuesday, November 7th and covers the Respiratory Tract Infections and the Gastrointestinal Tract Infections.

     

  • Tuesday, October 31st we will start Exercise #5 on Horizontal Gene Transfer (HGT). As a reminder the Pre-Lab #5 HGT is due before your lab section starts (9am for Section A; noon for Section B). Also the Lab Report for Exercise #4 on Gastrointestinal Tract Infections is due at the beginning of class. The Post-lab #4 will be due by 9pm on Wednesday, November 1st.

  • Thursday, October 26th we will finish Day 4 of the Gastrointestinal Tract Infections Exercise #4. The Lab Report #4 will be due Tuesday, October 31st. The Post-Lab #4 will be due by 9pm on Wednesday, November 1st.
  • Next week we will start Exercise #5 on Horizontal Gene Transfer on Tuesday, October 31st (so a Pre-Lab #5 will be due 1 hour before your section starts).

     

  • Tuesday, October 24th we will continue with Day 3 of the Gastrointestinal Tract Infections Exercise #4.

  • Thursday, October 19th we will continue with Day 2 of the Gastrointestinal Tract Infections Exercise #4.

  • Today we finished Exercise #3 on Respiratory Tract Infections and the Lab Report #3 will be due next week in lab on Tuesday, October 17th. The Post-lab #3 will be due by 9pm on Wednesday, October 18th.
  • Thursday, October 12th is the MCB428 Exam 1 during your normal lab section. It covers topics starting from the beginning of the course up to and including Gram-positive Infections. It is worth 100 pts and consists mainly of short answer questions (with some True/False questions and mutiple choice questions). A sample Exam is posted on the website and a calculator is not needed for the Exam. Please arrive on time so everyone can start on time.

     

  • Weekly TA Office hours are in 218 Noyes Lab on Mondays at 9am-10am with Colleen Bianco and at 11am-noon with Kyle Grim. Prof. Ikeda's Office hours are at 175A Burrill Hall on Mondays and Wednesdays at 2pm-3pm.

    On Thursday, we will continue with Exercise #3 Respiratory Tract Infections Day 2.

  • Welcome to MCB428 (Microbial Pathogens Laboratory). Classes are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays and our first meeting is on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, in Room 218 Noyes Laboratory. Section A meets at 10 am-11:50 am; Section B meets at 1 pm-2:50 pm. In the first few sessions, students will be introduced to the course policies, biosafety, and general laboratory procedures. We will provide you with a lab coat and other personal protective equipment. Students may review this material in the Fall 2017 MCB428 Lab Manual that must be purchased at the Illini Union Bookstore. We will also review some general principles related to pathogens. Looking forward to seeing you in lab!
