The MCB428 Exam I was returned to you in lab on October 18th. The key to the Exam is posted on the MCB428 website in the Exams section. The scores have been posted in Gradebook so please check to make sure your score is correct. You can request a regrade for a particular question by downloading and filling out the Regrade Request Form (from the Forms section of the MCB428 website) and turning it in to the Instructor or TA by Friday, October 26th. In the Form you must explain why your answer was the best and why you should get more credit.
The scores from the Pre-Labs #1-4, Post-Labs #1-3, Lab Reports #1, 2 and the Safety Training, and Exam I are posted in Gradebook. To determine where you currently stand in the course, add up your total scores up to this point and divide by the total points possible and multiply by 100. This will give you a percentage which you can compare with the gradescale that is based on 1,000 total points to give you a rough idea of your grade right now.
Tuesday, October 16th we will start Lab Exercise #4 (Gastrointestinal Tract Infections). Therefore, Pre-Lab #4 (Gastrointestinal) will be due an hour before your lab section begins. The Lab Report #3 (Respiratory Tract Infections) is also due Tuesday at the beginning of class and remember to answer the additional "Outside the Class Discussion" questions posted in the previous Announcements below. The Post-Lab #3 (Respiratory) will be due by 9pm on Wednesday, October 17th.
Tuesday, October 9th we will finish the Lab Exercise #3 (Respiratory Tract Infections). The Lab Report #3 will be due on Tuesday, October 16th. Thursday, October 11th is Exam I. You will take it during your regular lab section. It covers topics from the beginning of the course up to and including Gram-positive Cocci Infections. It is worth 100 pts and consists mainly of short answer questions with a few True/False and multiple choice questions. A Sample Exam is posted to show the style of questions that may be asked. Please bring a pen or pencil, and a calculator is not needed. Note: Answers to LON-CAPA assignments (Pre-Labs and Post-Labs) are posted in LON-CAPA shortly after the assignments close.

It is worth 100 pts and covers everything since the beginning of the course up to and including Gram-Positive Cocci Infections. It will include mainly short answer questions but also some multiple choice and True/False questions. A sample Exam will be posted soon.
Thursday, September 27th is Day 3 of the Gram-Positive Cocci Infections Lab Exercise #2. The Post-Lab will be due by Friday, October 5th at 9pm. Tuesday, September 18th is Day 4 of the Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) Lab Exercise #1. The Post-Lab #1 UTI will open soon on LON-CAPA and will be due by Wednesday, September 26th. You can go back to the Post-Lab to continue working on it throughout that period. The Lab Report #1 UTI will be due Tuesday, September 25th at the beginning of class. Welcome to MCB428 (Microbial Pathogens Laboratory). Classes are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays and our first meeting is on Tuesday, August 28, 2018. The classroom location will be at 218 Noyes Laboratory. Section A meets at 10 am-11:50 am; Section B meets at 1 pm-2:50 pm. In the first few sessions, students will be introduced to the course policies, biosafety, and general laboratory procedures. We will provide you with a lab coat and other personal protective equipment. Students may review this material in the Fall 2018 MCB428 Lab Manual that must be purchased at the Illini Union Bookstore. We will also review some general principles related to pathogens. Looking forward to seeing you in lab!
