Questions in Lysosomes
Page 4 out of 4 Pages
- Do we find mannose 6-phosphate in plant? Why or why not?(8791 views)
- Is sending the MPR back to the trans face of the golgi considered retrieval?(5260 views)
- Do early endosomoes contain a proton pump but not hydrolytic enzymes?(4907 views)
- Please clarify:
Is autophagy most likely to be done on organelles such as mitochondria and not proteins?
Also, is autophagy different from endoyctosis because the former does not pinch off from plasma membrane but rather S.E.R?(4502 views)
- I was just curious as to what UDP stands for when you're creating a M6P signal.
uracil diphosphate? i don't know.
Also, why is it that you add an N-acetylglucosamine in addition to this phosphate, which then just gets chopped off? (9549 views)
- 1) What's the difference between an early and late endosome? Is it just the pH?
2) It becomes a lysosome once the acid hydrolase enzymes enter, correct?
3) What kinds of things are broken down in the lysosome? The book says it takes in material from the outside of the cell. What's the point of bringing in stuff from the outside if it's just going to be broken down? Is it the 'parts' that are needed and not really what is actually being brought in?
4) When we talked about proteins going from ER > golgi > lysosome, thats for the creation of proteins to function in the lysosome and not be broken down?
(19897 views)
- I'm a little confused about the varying pH levels in the cell.. I understand that going from early endosome > late endosome > lysosome the pH becomes more acidic, but are there other pH levels we should be aware of? Are these the only places in the cell we should know about? (4550 views)
- Can a lysosome directly engage in endocytosis? or is endocytosis only carried out by an early endosome?(4633 views)
- In the 5th slide of lecture29, the receptors that are recycled go to recycling endosome and then eventually gets ejected out of the cell. However in the next slide, the recycled receptor molecule goes to Golgi apparatus. Which diagram is correct? I'm confused. Is it the mannose-6-P receptor that goes to Golgi to be recycled? If so, does it go through a recycling endosome or just straight to the Golgi? (4985 views)
- I'm still a little puzzled between early, late endosomes and lysosomes. Are these different structures or does it go through stages where it morphs from an early all the way to a lysosome?
Does an early endosome collect endocytic vessicles or is it formed from a merging of them? does an early endosome include the receptors or is the early endosome just the material that is going to be degraded after sending off the receptors to the recyling endosome?(4407 views)
