DNA Structure and Replication

ID #1712

Are the single-stranded binding proteins attached to the DNA strand by helicase, or do they attach independently? If they attach independently, how do they "know" that it is time to attach (do they also recognize the ori and move outward along the replication forks)?

SSBs are "recruited" to the site of DNA replication once helicase is in place. The mechanism by which this happens is not something we need to worry about for this course.
