In the fig. in our handout, are the 2 enzymes working at the replication fork DNA pol I and DNA pol III ?


Each template molecule at a replication fork has a molecule of DNA polymerase III working, which is why you see two of them in that figure. We could immediately identify that it's not DNA polymerase I, because the machinery at the fork itself is still in this vicinity. DNA polymerase I and DNA ligase come in later and clean up; by that time, the rest of the machinery at the fork has moved further down the helix.
