DNA Structure and Replication

ID #1150

Does each subunit have its own function or just one all together?

Depends on the molecule and what you define as a "function." A ribosomal subunit could be called multimeric, because it's made up of multiple proteins and RNA(s). But by and large, those proteins are only serving a structural role. So while not every individual piece in a macromolecular complex like a ribosome (or a snRNP, or an RNA polymerase, etc.) is catalyzing a reaction, they're all probably there for a reason. This might be a minor distinction, but an important one.
