DNA Structure and Replication

ID #2220

Does telomerase produce a single strand of DNA at the telomere end, or does it produce two? The textbook implies telomerase produces one strand, and then DNA POL III will come in and add complementary bases pairs. Am I inferring that correctly?

As shown in the figure from your Becker textbook (p.566) it says, "Standard replication machinery extends the complementary DNA strand."

So, telomerase makes only one strand and the normal machinery synthesizes the other complementary strand.
