Energy and Metabolism

ID #1664

I was wondering about the amount of ATP you can from NADH and FADH2. In class you said NADH leads to the formation of 3 ATP by oxidative phosphorylation and FADH2 gives 2 ATP. But the text says 2.5 ATP and 1.5 ATp respectively. So which is more accurate?

It depends on the conditions under which the measurements are made, but the values in your book are probably more accurate. I rounded up for convenience, and those are the numbers you should use for any calculation in this course.
