Lipids and Biomembranes

ID #1766

Will we only be able to recognize if cholesterol is present if you tell us that it is an animal cell?

You should be able to recognize a steroid molecule in the most general of ways -- 4 membered ring structure, hydrophobic tail, tiny polar head group -- but you'd only be expected to know that it's cholesterol if you're told it's an animal cell membrane.
