Lipids and Biomembranes

ID #1074

Do peripheral proteins touch the phospholipid bilayer and if so do they interact with polar bonds?

Typically, peripheral membrane proteins are held onto an integral membrane protein, using the same types of stabilizing forces you would find holding subunits together. I don't think there's a rule against them touching the lipids, but I think more often than not they're held away from the lipid bilayer.
