Lipids and Biomembranes

ID #1067

Does shifting the plasma membrane disturb the proteins that lie inside the membrane, or are they equally as liquid as the lipids, just much larger?

If a membrane protein is not anchored to something on either side of the membrane, it would go along for the ride if the membrane was stretched. This usually is not the case however, since many proteins are held in position in a biomembrane.
