Lipids and Biomembranes

ID #1642

In an aqueous environment, it is less energetically favorable to form a planar phospholipid bilayer than to have free-floating phospholipids. The answer to this question is FALSE. I do not understand why this is because in a planar phospholipid the edges are exposed to water so wouldnt it be unergeticially unfavorable?

Yes, it's energetically unfavorable compared to a liposome, but it's better than free phospholipids in which every tail is exposed to water!
