In PDF page 6 slide 2 (class handouts), I understand that the direction of the arrows shows whether or not the particle is able to pass through the membrane, but what does the size of the arrow represent?


For molecules that will pass through, the size of the arrow indicates the relative ease or speed at which that passage happens. For molecules that will not pass through, the size of the arrow indicates how strongly it's blocked.
