What are the conditions for proteins (at the tertiary level) that lead to the formation of hydrogen bonds versus ionic bonds versus hydrophobic interactions?


There's not a "limit" to the number of stabilizing forces, where you can have H-bonds but not ionic bonds, or something like that. Instead, the only limitation is on the right groups finding each other for the appropriate interaction. For example, there's no theoretical limit on the number of disulfide bridges, but each one requires two cysteines that find themselves in the same area.
