In one of the questions "What is the chemical formula for a chain of 4 glucose molecules? " the answer is C24H42O21. I am confused on why it is not C24H48024?

To link four monosaccharides together requires three condensation reactions, and each condensation reaction results in the loss of a water molecule. So you have to subtract three oxygens and six hydrogens in this oligosaccharide.
