Domains of Life; Prokaryotic vs. Eukaryotic Cells

ID #1003

What, if anything, do we have to know about light and/or electron microscopes?

About the microscopes themselves, nothing. But throughout the semester, including on exams, I'll give you light and electron micrographs as figures and ask you to interpret certain things about them. So understanding when you might see a more 3-dimensional representation, when something might look darker, etc., is going to be very important. This will become particularly important when we see a lot of fluorescence microscopy images, when brighter means "more," whereas in TEM, darker means "more."
