Ribosomes are "macromolecular machines"? Could you elaborate on what that term means?


Ribosomes are considered macromolecular machines (not organelles) because they do have a specific function like an organelle has a specific function, but they are not membrane bound compartments like organelles. The function that ribosomes have was answered in the previous question on this board.
