Domains of Life; Prokaryotic vs. Eukaryotic Cells

ID #2372

What molecules are likely to be found in the membrane of the rough endoplasmic reticulum?

Rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) is covered with ribosomes which are the site of protein synthesis where amino acids are joined via peptide bonds to create polypeptide chains in a process called translation. The RER is a stack of biomembranes, so you would find lipids and proteins in and around the membrane and actually you would be able to find two types of ribonucleic acid (RNA) in and around the ribosomes. We'll learn much more about this process later in the semester if all of that didn't make sense.
