Microtubules

ID #1554

the textbook says that in the centrosome, the gamma-tubulin is associated with other proteins to form a gamma-tubulin ring complex, and gamma-tubulin is also present in the cytosol. Are the centrioles part of the gamma-tubulin ring complex, or can the entire gamma-tubulin ring complex be found in the cytosol? Also, is the entire gamma-tubulin ring complex necessary for microtubule formation, or is the presence of the gamma-tubulin protein sufficient?

The whole ring complex is necessary, and since it's only found in the centrosome, that's why all MTs originate there.
