I have "distal end" written down in my notes next to a microtubule image. Is that term of any importance?

Since words like "left" and "right" don't have any significance inside a cell, we use a different set of terminology. One of those "pairs" of terms is distal and proximal, where distal means "further away" and proximal means "closer to." I must have (accidentally) used the word distal to describe the plus end of a MT relative to the centrosome.
