Microtubules

ID #2144

If microtubules are made up of tubulin and protofilaments make microtubules then what are protofilaments made up of?

That's kind of a tough one. Protofilaments aren't really structures that are created just to be protofilaments. It's a word that was created to describe the observed physical structure of a microtubule down its regular length. But to answer your specific question, they are made of tubulin dimers lined up one on top of the other.
