In one of the question: Which of the following is observed during sarcomere contraction? And this was marked incorrect: The A band shortens. I thought that the A band does shrink during sarcromere contraction.

No, the A-band is the entire length of the myosin thick filament. While the head groups of the individual myosins do move back and forth as ATP is hydrolyzed, the length of the filament does not change.
