Actin and Myosin

ID #1570

Which of the following movements is not based on actin-myosin interactions? Correct: Mitosis Is this a false statement because it only helps with cytokinesis? But than again, cytokinesis is part of mitosis, so you can say mitosis is based on actin-myosin interactions, I think... I thought the correct answer would be phagocytosis because actin alone is what does phagocytosis, I think...

M-phase is NOT synonymous with mitosis. As I described again in lecture today, the events of M-phase are mitosis AND cytokinesis. Cytokinesis requires the interaction of actin and myosin, mitosis does not. As we'll see later, the cytoskeleton-dependent steps of mitosis use microtubules, not actin.
