Golgi Apparatus

ID #1590

I am just wondering where proteins translated by free cytosolic ribosomes are modified or if they need to be modified at all. I don't think they are carried to the Golgi Apparatus.

you are correct in deducing that proteins translated fully out in the cytosol are never introduced into the Golgi apparatus. That doesn't mean they're not modified at all, just not modified in the ways we've learned in lecture recently. However, there are other types of glycosylation events, plus proteins can be phosphorylated or other types of modifications out in the cytoplasm.
