I was wondering: If glycolipids are added in the ER, then how are they transported out to where the cell membrane is? Is it just through the use of secretory vesicles?

Yes, that's absolutely correct. You can send a vesicle to the plasma membrane without having any "soluble" content inside. It might appear to be empty, but the real reason it got sent there was to add to the membrane, not dump content into the extracellular space.
