Does the term membrane bound mean that the protein is bound to both sides of the membrane. In other words, does it mean that the protein is occupying a transmembrane region in the lipid bilayer.


In a broader context, it could mean transmembrane, membrane-associated, lipid linked, or even peripheral, but we mean something more specific when talking about ER signals.
