Endoplasmic Reticulum

ID #1865

I was just wondering if BiP is simply a chaperone in the lumen of the ER or if it also is involved in the folding of the protein once it has entered the ER.

It does seem that most of the chaperones we've encountered this semester simply keep proteins from folding incorrectly, but a great number of them (like BiP) go a step further and actually assist the protein in folding correctly.
