Is the only function of BiP we need to know is that it acts as a chaperone to fold soluble proteins? it was also mentioned in the context of post translational translocation, where BiP is used as a 'ratchet'. But I don't think that was covered in class, right?


BiP also acts as a ratchet and drives translocation through the ER translocon. This was not covered in lecture but is in the assigned readings in the textbook, so this is fair game for the exam.
