Endoplasmic Reticulum

ID #2137

When a protein is being thread through a translocon and it is encountering internal sequences and stop transfer sequences, is a different translocon used when each of those sequences is embedded into the membrane or is it the same translocon for one protein the entire time?

When the first signal peptide is displayed (either an amino-terminal or internal signal peptide), SRP recognizes the signal and brings the complex over to a given translocon. The ribosome will not bemoving to other translocons during translation of the protein, so the protein will be embedded in the membrane through the opening and closing of the same translocon.
