Nucleo-Cytoplasmic Exchange

ID #1211

What is the purpose of the poly-A binding protein, the 5' cap binding protein, and the nuclear transport receptor? Also, how do they aid in allowing the mRNA to cross the nuclear pore complex?

What I said in class that day was that the figure shown demonstrates other things than the one "take home point" I mentioned. That point is that there are lots of proteins that bind to a mRNA, and at least one (and almost certainly more than one) of them need to have an NES to allow the whole complex to cross a nuclear pore.
