The Nucleus and its Functional Domains

ID #2427

What keeps the ribosomal subunits from coming together inside the nucleus? During lecture, it was mentioned that there is a "finishing touch" as the subunits leave the nucleus-- what is that finishing touch?

You do not need to know what the finishing touches are that allow the ribsomal subunits to become functional. These finishing touches are not completed until the subunits are on their way out of the nucleus, however, and this prevents mature, functional ribosomes from being present in the nucleus.
