Transcription and RNA Processing

ID #1795

Could you hypothetically create two RNA strands from the same gene in parallel by starting a second RNA polymerase on a gene before the first polymerase has finished transcription? If transcription speed is at a premium, this would allow cells to double (or triple, or otherwise increase) their transcription rates. On the other hand, it seems as though there are lots of chances for something to go wrong in this process, such as physical or chemical interactions between polymerases or unfinished RNA strands.
