Transcription and RNA Processing

ID #1744

Regarding the modification of the 3' end of an eukaryotic mRNA - you said that the enzyme poly-A polymerase does not need to be told what base to add next, and that the only thing it can add is adenines. Is this because adenines are the only type of base it's capable of adding?

The only job of the poly-A polymerase is to add adenines in a row, and since it only adds one thing, it does not have to be "told" via a template molecule what the next base should be.
