Transcription and RNA Processing

ID #1740

If you have an RNA degrading enzyme, does it only affect molecules that are RNA dependent?

When we referred to "dependency," we were talking about nucleic acid synthesizing enzymes. With degrading enzymes (nucleases), they are degrading nucleic acid, not protein. So an RNA degrading enzyme, or RNase, will hydrolyze an RNA molecule, but it will not hydrolyze a peptide linkage in a polymerase. It's a nuclease, not a protease.
