Transcription and RNA Processing

ID #2347

In the notes of Lecture 16, it says "The closer a bacterial promoter is to the -10 and -35 consensus sequences, the better RNA Polymerase will bind = more RNA" , what does "closer" mean ?

In this context, "closer" means more similar. The more similar a bacterial promoter is to the -10 and -35 consensus sequences, the better RNA Polymerase will bind to it.
